After ‘Baap ka Maal’ comments, Rishi Kapoor tweets about 64 places named after Nehru-Gandhi family in Delhi

Mumbai: After getting overwhelming support for taking on the Gandhi family over naming of important Indian assets on family members’ names, veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor tweeted a map of Delhi, highlighting the places named after the Nehrus and Gandhis.

Earlier this week, the veteran actor’s controversial tweets questioning why the Congress had named important Indian assets and government projects after its icons from the Nehru-Gandhi family sparked a nationwide debate.

The outspoken Bollywood actor on Thursday tweeted: “THINK. There are 64 prominent places named after them only in New Delhi! Do you need that many to commemorate them?”

Kapoor raked up a huge storm by attacking the practice of naming numerous major assets of the country after the Gandhi-Nehru family members during the Congress rule. The Bollywood veteran said, “Change Gandhi family assets named by Congress. Bandra/Worli Sea Link to Lata Mangeshkar or JRD Tata link road.” “Baap ka maal samjh rakha tha?,” Rishi Kapoor said in a tweet.

The comments created a furore with Congress spokesperson PC Chacko, who didn’t name Rishi Kapoor, telling the media that the comments targetting the Gandhis were “merely an attempt by some people to get into the good books of those in power”.

In a series of tweets the actor had suggested that important places be named after several Bollywood personalities.

In one post, he had questioned why Delhi’s airport was named Indira Gandhi International Airport. “Why not Mahatma Gandhi or Bhagat Singh, Ambedkar or on my name Rishi Kapoor. As superficial! What say.”

“We must name important assets of the country who have contributed to society. Har cheez Gandhi ke naam? I don’t agree. Sochna log!”

“Film City should be named Dilip Kumar,Dev Anand,Ashok Kumar ya Amitabh Bachchan ke naam? Rajeev Gandhi udyog Kya hota hai? Socho doston!”

Congress workers on Wednesday protested outside the house of actor Rishi Kapoor in suburban Bandra in Mumbai for attacking the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Expressing gratitude for the support, Rishi tweeted: “Thank you all for your unprecedented unconditional support, love and solidarity for what I said. Mera Bharat Mahaan (My India is great).”
