Akhtar wants to guide Amir to glory190 views
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former pace-man Shoaib Akhtar said that he wants to become the mentor of young and talented Mohammad Amir and lead him back to the national team.
The 23 year-old Amir was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Salman Butt and pace-partner Mohammad Asif for bowling dilebrate no-balls in a Test match against England in 2010. The five year ban on the tainted trio ended up on 1st September and now they are free to play international, domestic and club cricket.
Akhtar showed his interest in Pakistan Super League which is scheduled to take place in Qatar in February 2016, he further said that he would like to buy one of the franchise which are participating in that event.
He added that he’s planning to buy one of the five teams appearing in the tournament and would like to have Amir in his team, so he could polish him and make him more effective.
The 40 year-old Akhtar said that Amir made his debut when he was 17 year-old and since then every body knew that he’s extremely talented, five years back he was on the top of his game and to reach that greatness again he has to work hard.
World’s fastest bowler in the history of cricket, Akhtar has shared filed with Amir a couple of times. They were together in two one-day internationals in Asia Cup and also featured for a T20 game against Australia and England in the same year when he was banned.
In his last match Amir took seven wickets for Sui Northern Gas Company in a non first-class qualifier with his mixture of different variations in-swingers, out-swingers, slow-balls and bouncers coming from over the wicket and around it.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s former player now commentator Ramiz Raja who is also the brand ambassador of the PSL, said that the tainted trio shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the upcoming tournament and all doors should be closed on them to make an international return.
Meanwhile, Akhtar said that all of them deserve a second chance as they have suffered a lot in last five years. He concluded while saying that imagine if Amir, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Shahid Afridi and Yasir Shah are bowling for Pakistan then we can surely win the next T20 World Cup.
