Amjad Sabri’s debut on Coke Studio 9



Amjad Sabri’s death has left a lot of his fans and others forlorn and traumatized.

The young Qawaal prepared some stuff for his fans what has yet become his parting gift: a much-anticipated Coke Studio debut.

The material would be his loving memory and the cooperation will see him collaborate with another well-known qawwal and playback singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. In the show, Amjad will be witnessed singing the renowned qawwali Aj Rang Hai, which has been in the past played by Hadiqa Kiani on the show’s Rohail Hyatt-produced the fifth season in 2012.

A production’s crew member of Coke Studio 9 stated that “Both Amjad Sabri and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan have collaborated on a qawwali.”

Strings try out with a multiple-producer move toward this year; the qawwali has been produced by Shani Arshad. The source has revealed that the couple of Rahat and Amjad had extensive meetings with the producer before the recording for the show. The source stated that “Unlike majority of the artists, Amjad and Rahat did not require multiple takes to nail the track. They recorded the song in one go instead.”


The house band applied minor alterations for the track with the qawwal parties of both the vocalists reinstating mass of the show’s session musicians.

The crew member further added that “Rahat and Amjad both had two to three people from their qawwal parties alongside them whereas the tabla player also belonged to Amjad’s group,”

Whereas Shani will be appeared performing the keyboard, guitarist Imran Akhoond and bassist Kamran ‘Mannu’ Zafar are as well part of the teamwork.

Shani was very gloomy on Amjad’s death and expressed his anguish “To me, his death comes as an even greater shock because I had only recently worked with him on the qawwali for Coke Studio,”

He continued by saying “I think it will be a fitting tribute for Amjad Sabri and a great surprise for his fans as he’s done a remarkable job on the single.” However, he didn’t reveal much information about the song.

Amjad’s emergence on the show would supply as a curtain call on the qawwal’s memorable career that crossed crosswise almost four diverse decades. Aj Rang Hai would be Sabri’s sole appearance in the ninth edition of Coke Studio.

Telling regarding the recording in May, Amjad had told that “About 40 years ago, my father and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan read this kalam at a dargah in Karachi and 40 years later, Rahat and I are reading it again [on Coke Studio Season 9].”

Previous year Atif Aslam had played a version of the qawwali, Tajdar-e-Haram, that was made eminent by Amjad’s father and uncle.


Strings quoted by saying that “The tragic death of Amjad Sabri is a huge national loss. In spite of his great success nationally and internationally, he was a gentle and humble person, treasured and respected by everyone who met him,”

It was further added “We’ve always believed in collaborations because this is how the industry grows. It was a challenging task and our guidance was required throughout the process, but today we are extremely satisfied that we took this initiative.”

The six producers fraction of the show’s arrangement involving Shiraz Uppal, Noori, Faakhir, Shuja Haider, Jaffer Zaidi and Shani whereas Bilal Maqsood and Faisal Kapadia will be taking the posts of executive producers.

Indian vocalist Shilpa Rao and imminent Pakistani singer Nirmal Roy will as well be the fraction of the show that will hit screens on August 14.
