Anurag Kashyap rubbishes ‘Udta Punjab’ ban reports

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Udta Punjab has landed itself in a censor soup. The Central Board of Film Certification, popularly known as Indian Censor Board, has put a ban on the film and has suggested 40 cuts in the film. The controversial news spread like wild fire, however, there is more to it than what meets the eye.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap , who is co-producing the film under his banner Phantom Films , has tweeted about the film not being banned. Anurag, clearing the air on the supposed ‘ban’, tweeted, “For the record, “Udta Punjab” is not banned. The examining committee has deferred the decision to Revising and due process in on.”

Another tweet of the maverick filmmaker read, “And due process takes it own time so please abstain for spreading a BAN rumour. There is nothing to speak on the subject as of now.” Further explaining the scenario and the procedure, his last tweet read, “A film is banned only when examining, revising and FCAT all three refuse certificate. And then you fight it out in Supreme Court.”

It seems another film and filmmaker is on its way to lose its creative freedom under the name of censorship. Let’s wait and watch if the film manages to release without any cuts whatsoever or the audience gets to see a heavily censored version of the film.
