Army officer injured in Torkham border firing dies


PESHAWAR: An army officer who was injured during exchange of fire between Pakistan and Afghan forces at Torkham border has succumbed to his wounds this morning.

Major Ali Jawad Changezi could not recuperate after critical injuries during the Afghan firing at the border, said sources. He was under treatment at Combined Military Hospital Peshawar.

The funeral of the deceased army officer will take place in Peshawar and he will be laid to rest in his hometown Quetta. Condolence prayers were also offered for the martyred official in the National Assembly session today.

According to ISPR, Afghan Security forces resorted to unprovoked firing on Pakistani side at Torkham Gate. A Pakistani soldier was injured due to Afghan firing. Pakistani security forces responded to Afghan firing effectively.

It may be mentioned that Torkham is the most frequented crossing point at Pak-Afgn Border and recently even most of the terrorists have been found using this gate for entry.

In order to check movement of terrorists through Torkham, Pakistan is constructing a gate on own side of the border as a necessity to check unwanted and illegal movement, said the ISPR.
