Body found of boy, 2, who was dragged underwater by alligator at Disney World5,258 views
The body of a two-year-old boy who was dragged underwater by an alligator while walking beside a lagoon at a Disney World resort has been recovered, reports say.
The boy, who has been named as Lane Graves, had been on a beach at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando with his mother, father and two siblings.
The boy’s father tried to wrestle the alligator after it grabbed the boy at the resort, but he was overcome by the reptile’s strength.
Police said that there were ‘no swimming’ signs near the area where the boy vanished.
The boy is believed to have been wading in the water with his mother when he was grabbed.
A huge search operation was carried out for the child, but local police had already conceded that boy’s family ‘will no question lose the 2-year-old.’
More than 50 law enforcement personnel searched the Seven Seas Lagoon, while wildlife and marine officials were also drafted into the search.
At least five other alligators were caught and cut open before they found the killer.
Sheriff Demings said he had informed parents Matt and Melissa Graves, from Elkhorn, Nebraska.
‘Of course the family was distraught but somewhat relived that they had found his body intact,’ he said.
A family friend released a statement on behalf of the couple thanking well-wishers for their ‘thoughts and hope-filled prayers’.
The body was found by a dive team at about 3:30 p.m – around 16 hours after the alligator snatched the toddler.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
