Chile beats Uruguay in a fired-up match to qualify for Semis



SANTIAGO: The host team Chile has qualified for the Copa America semi-finals, one-step closer to achieve their dream of winning the South American Crown after defeating Uruguay 1-0.

It was a very fired-up and physical match as the defending champions Uruguay were just nine-men left at the end of the match, two of their players were shown red card by Brazilian referee Sandro Meira Ricci.


Uruguay and Paris Saint-Germain striker Edison Cavani was showed the first yellow card in the 29th minute of the game for a foul on Arturo Vidal, he was shown the red in the 63rd minute of the match for flicking the face of Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara.

The other Uruguayan to leave the pitch was defender Jorge Fucile, as he was shown the first yellow card in the 40th minute of the game and then the red card in the ending moments of the match when he bumped up into Chile’s star player Alexis Sanchez.


The first-half was firmly won by the holders for their brilliant defense, but the deadlock was broken by Chilean and Juventus defender Mauricio Isla who scored the only goal scored in the match in the 81st minute of the game.
