ISLAMABAD: Heavy cross-border fire from Afghanistan killed seven Pakistani soldiers early Tuesday at a checkpost in South Waziristan Agency.
Pakistani soldiers patrol in Sararogha town, which was stronghold of Taliban militants in troubled South Waziristan, on November 17, 2009. Pakistan said on November 17 that troops waging a major ground and air offensive against the Taliban have captured most towns once under rebel control in a key district on the Afghan border. The military made the comments to reporters flown to the former bastion of Sararogha in South Waziristan, with Washington reportedly increasing pressure on Pakistan to fight militants active across the border in Afghanistan. Pakistan dispatched 30,000 troops into battle on October 17, vowing to crush the Tehreek-e-Taliban network and blaming the faction for some of the deadliest recent bomb attacks.
