A new research study has revealed that almost five billion people, that are approximately half the world’s population, are poised to become myopic or short-sighted by the end of 2050.

Myopia is a vision state and also named as nearsightedness in which people can watch clearly the figures that are near to eyes but figures that far away appear to be unclear to the view.

Almost more than one billion people at an elevated peril of blindness, myopia is going to become the foremost reason of permanent blindness worldwide.

Additional, with the results recommending that the US will have 260 million myopes by 2050, more than the 90 million in 2000, and Canada will observe 66 million more myopes by 2050, up from the 11 million in 2000, the sight failure from elevated myopia is anticipated to enlarge seven-fold from 2000 to 2050.

Researchers of the study told that the fast enlargement in the occurrence of myopia worldwide is recognized to “environmental factors, lifestyle changes resulting from a combination of decreased time outdoors and increased near work activities, among other factors”, said the researchers.

Parents require making sure that the children’s eyes are frequently tested, enhancing outdoors time and reasonable time on near based actions, involving electronic devices.

The researchers of the study also recommended in the study which was cited in the journal Ophthalmology shared that widespread eye care services are required to ensure the fast enlargement in high myopes, besides the improvement in treatments to organize the progression of myopia and avoid people from becoming more myopic.

Kovin Naidoo, who is a professor at the University of New South Wales in Australia, told that “We also need to ensure our children receive a regular eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist, preferably each year, so that preventative strategies can be employed if they are at risk,”
