Gamblers have destroyed Pakistan cricket, says Miandad

KARACHI: Pakistan’s former captain Javed Miandad said that gambling has destroyed cricket in Pakistan as well as the other sports played in our country.

While talking to the media, Miandad said that back in our days there was no gambling and neither did we tried to fix matches because if we have done that than we didn’t got the respect today we have in the world of cricket and in our country. He further said that gambling and gamblers are definitely bad for Pakistan cricket.

In his coaching career with Pakistan, Miandad was removed as head coach of Pakistan shortly before the World Cup 1999. When he reported some player involved in match fixing during a tournament in Sharjah, eventually the players stood against him and he was sacked soon.

Talking about the decline in Pakistan cricket, Miandad said that it is because of the politics and wrong choice of people heading the cricketing affairs in our country. He said that current chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) M. Shahryar Khan and Najam Sethi are not a good choice as they are cricket lovers not cricket players.

According to his opinion Lt General (retd) Tauqir Zia and Ijaz Butt were the right choices as chairman. Miandad said that the right choice to head PCB is Pakistan’s former legendary captain Imran Khan, but his political career doesn’t allows him to give the required time to cricket.

Miandad concluded while saying that Pakistan cricket can only be improved if they will adopt a proper system, because whoever heads the board runs the system according to his understandings.
