This year Indian fashion designer commemorated 25 years in the fashion business and earned himself — or rather, his clothes — a spot on Vogue India’s cover, which is the Indian edition of the monthly fashion and lifestyle magazine.
The fashion designer was telling to the Vague, which is the 17th international edition of Vogue and the first edition in South Asia, about his initial steps in the fashion industry in India “I have been working here since the time when I was 20-year-old. I was not a child who hung out in college cafes. At 19, I saved up money from my modeling gigs and travelled abroad for the first time, to Bangkok and Singapore. Throughout that time, I had my first brush with fashion as a designer-cum-sales-boy at a small boutique called Equinox. I also used my time there to do a lot of sketching and learn how to drape on mannequins.”
Manish Malhotra is one of the most successful Indian fashion designers and associated with Bollywood glamour and the films. Malhotra admitted that “I was for all the time much enthralled by Hindi movie’s actresses and their multicolored outfits… There were times during my teen years when I would have seen 2-3 films a day, down for the count my sister-in-law with me. Even at age six, I had a judgment that which sari or dupatta my mother should dress in.”
