Om Puri, the superlative actor of Indian cinema and winner of multiple National and International awards turns 65 today. He’s certainly one of the most versatile, talented and amazing actors in Bollywood today.


In his 37-year-old career in the Indian film industry, he has done over 260 films so far. Om Puri is a recipient of the Padmashree Award and has also featured in British and American films. The actor has been a part of commercial as well as art films.




Born on October 18th October 1950, Om Puri made his debut in the 1976 film ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’ directed by Mani Kaul. Then he went on to do may more movies that were critically acclaimed. He is known for his unconventional roles in Aakrosh and Ardh Satya. He received critical acclaim for him performance in Govind Nihalani’s television film Tamas (1987) based on a Hindi novel of the same name.



He played comic roles in Hindi films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro which reached a cult status, followed by Chachi 420 (1997), Hera Pheri (2000), Chor Machaye Shor (2002) and Malamaal Weekly (2006).

It’s been 44 years that these two actor-cum-friends have shared their journey together. From becoming friends at N.S.D to even studying together in the Film Institute and to then acting in Bollywood, these two have come a long way. Om Puri said, “In my case you can say that my parents gave me birth, but I was brought up by my friends which definitely includes Naseer.”

While the two share a healthy relationship when it comes to work none hesitate in pointing out mistakes in each other’s work. Naseer feels Om is the only friend in his life to whom he can be honest and critique his work without any fear. And Om appreciates when Naseer has shown pride in his work.
