IDRF issues Press Release regarding Fort McMurray wildfire disaster1,615 views
Fort McMurray’s more than 80,000 residents have been ordered to flee the oilsands city after a massive wildfire, fuelled by soaring temperatures and tinder-dry forest, broached the city limits. Fort McMurray is located in Northern Alberta of Canada.
The wildfire burning in the city limits has forced the largest fire evacuation in Alberta’s history. It was expected to get worse Wednesday, when winds were forecast to switch direction and increase in intensity, at speeds of 25 to 50 kilometres per hour.

International Development and Relief Foundation is saddened to hear about the destruction caused by the wild fires in and around Fort McMurray in Alberta.
IDRF has created a Canada wide appeal for fundraising to support those who are in need. These brave Albertans have shown such courage and discipline that it has inspired us all and we will do our bit to help our brothers and sisters in need.

We have recently heard that government of Alberta has declared a state of emergency. There has been extensive destruction spanning over more than 1,600 structures. Over 80,000 people have already been evacuated. Evacuation orders have been issued for many neighbouring areas.
Our hearts and prayers are with all those who have been affected.
IDRF Calgary will be working with local community and not-for-profit organizations to raise funds. These funds will be channelled through reliable resources to ensure speedy support in most needy areas.
