I’m ready to face the angry fans, says Mohammad Asif536 views
LAHORE: Banned Pakistani fast-bowler Mohammad Asif said that he is ready to face the angry fans and to listen their abuse as he returns to cricket after serving a five year-ban.
According to International Cricket Council (ICC) Mohammad Asif, Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir are free to play any level of cricket from 2nd September, after dealing with their punishment for spot-fixing at the Lord’s Test against England in 2010.
At that time Asif was regarded as the best new-ball bowler of the modern-era by Pakistan’s former great Imran Khan and other legendary players of the game. The trio of Asif, Amir and Butt were all God-gifted players, they all were banned from international cricket by ICC from five years.
Amir’s ban was relaxed by ICC earlier this year, allowing him to play domestic cricket and now Salman and Asif are also eligible to play from next month. While talking to the media, Asif said that he’s ready to make a comeback and I’m also ready to face angry fans and their abuse I know they will call me a cheat. But I’m ready to face the criticism as I have faced many other things in these last five years.
Asif further said that I know I have committed a mistake, but I have also asked forgiveness from Allah Almighty and said sorry to the nation. He also said that I will win the hearts of angry fans with my performance and trust me I’m ready for it.
Talking about the return of the trio in domestic cricket, Pakistan’s former captain and wicket-keeper Rashid Latif said that he will not support their comeback in international cricket. He further said that he knows they will replace other players because they are more talented, but those players are clean and never have disgraced reputation of Pakistan.
Moreover Asif said that we have completed our punishment and this is wrong to punish us again for the same mistake, it’s an open ground for everyone. If I perform and get my rhythm back I will be selected for Pakistan again and believe me this will happen.
