Industries getting uninterrupted gas supply: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Wednesday said that industry was running smoothly due to uninterrupted gas supply.

The government had taken concrete steps, including import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ensure 24-hour gas supply to the industry, besides other consumers, he said while talking to the state television.

He said Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) was receiving 400 million cubic feet LNG imported from Qatar. The LNG had made the gas-fueled power plants, which were closed due to gas shortage, functional.

More plants would be set up, which would help the country to overcome the energy shortage by 2018, he added.

He said the LNG was also being supplied to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations for their smooth functioning.

Khaqan said process was underway to build another LNG terminal in Karachi, which would be operational next year. Talks in this regard were continuing with Bahria Foundation. There was plan to build a terminal in Gwadar as well, he added. –APP
