ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami has announced to stage sit-in in Islamabad on September 8 against “obstacles created by the government” in transparent investigation into Panama Papers.

JI Chief Sirajul Haq said his party would stage dharna against government corruption and their attempts to block probe into Panama scandal.

He said the next course of action would be announced at party’s sit-in on Sept 8.

Addressing a ceremony in Peshawar, Haq slammed that National Accountability Bureau didn’t take any action following Panama Papers revelations.

He said the government must relinquish charge if it couldn’t protect people and give them their rights.

He was of the view that government was not letting accountability institutions to operate freely. The country is facing threats due to dishonest politicians, the JI chief added.

Three of Sharif’s four children are named in the Panama Papers — daughter Maryam, who has been tipped to be his political successor, and sons Hasan and Hussain — with the records showing they owned London real estate through offshore companies administered by Mossack Fonseca.

The leaked papers, comprising 11.5 million documents from Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, exposes how some of the world’s most powerful people have secreted their money offshore, and also implicated Sharif’s sons Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz.

The Panama Papers have whipped up a storm of controversy over offshore wealth, ensnaring political leaders, sports figures and underworld members across the globe in the scandal.
