The filmmakers of Zinda Bhaag in 2013 are back with full zeal and zest with their new comedy film Jeewan Hathi. Farjad Nabi who is the co-director of the upcoming movie has stated “The race for higher ratings is universal for TV channels across the world,” Farjad continued in an interview “As you know, anchors in Pakistan go to some dangerous lengths to achieve higher ratings. We wanted to do a spoof on this and so, the idea of a black comedy was born.”

The movie has been penned by Fasih Bari Khan and producer is Mazhar Zaidi. The star cast of the film includes big names such as Samiya Mumtaz, Hina Dilpazeer, and Naseeruddin Shah.

According to another director of the film Meenu Gaur, Jeewan Hathi is the subject of the manufactured realities of the media and people who make and use them. Meenu added, “While the film is a satire, I would like to believe it is an empathetic take on those hungry for ratings and also the gullible audience who aspires for the make-believe media world.”

It was asked about the name of the movie and Gaur elaborated that the game show in the movie is named Jeewan Sathi and states couples to prove their love for each other. She continued “The use of the word ‘Hathi’ is for the TV set, as the proverbial ‘elephant in the room’. So we all know that the box in front of us is distorting our reality but nobody acknowledges it,”

Both films Zinda Bhaag and Jeewan Hathi reflect society and both directors Nabi and Gaur agrees on it. Nabi told “Both deal with injustices but are framed within a story that makes you laugh and cry at the same time,”

Jeewan Hathi has by now been displayed at the Zeal for Unity festival in Amritsar, India, and the London Indian Film Festival previously this year. It is going to release in Pakistan on 4 November.
