Mah-e-Mir is selected for Oscar 2017

Mah-e-Mir is chosen by the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee to be submitted for Oscar consideration in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category at the 89th Academy Awards.

The eminent Pakistani film Mah-e-Mir, which is directed by Anjum Shahzad and penned by Sarmad Sehbai, archives the life of a juvenile anarchist poet (Fahad Mustafa) who criticizes tradition, goes through the sufferings of love, severance and scarcity, which forces him into insanity, where he finds the 18th century poet Mir Taqi Mir.

In his prosaic voyage, he exemplifies the deep love, ardor and creative madness of the poet. The movie characterizes Fahad Mustafa, Iman Ali, Sanam Saeed, Alyy Khan and Manzar Sehbai.

The film was chosen by way of a clandestine poll and was the awesome movie of preference of the Committee members. As per standard practice, movies chosen by every person country’s Academy selection committee are presented to the Academy for screening, short listing, and voting with official Oscar nominees publicized at an afterward date.

The Pakistani Academy Selection Committee was represented by twice Academy Award and Emmy triumphing documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and involved Iram Parveen Bilal since the charge d’affaires, Zeba Bakhtiar, Adnan Siddiqui, Hasan Zaidi, Sheema Kermani, Sarmad Khoosat, Jamshed Mahmood Raza, Jamil Dehlavi and Adnan Sarwar.

Iram was stating regarding the selection of Mah e Mir “After decades of neglect, it is a matter of great pride that the Pakistani film industry has achieved so much in such brief time and speaks volumes for the inherent artistic talent of our people.”


It was further stated that “I wish the makers of Mah-e-Mir the best of luck in their journey through the shortlisting process and thank them for their contribution to Pakistani cinema.”

The Pakistani Academy Selection Committee chose Zinda Bhaag in 2013 as the initial Pakistani movie in more than fifty years to be presented for Oscar consideration in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category, pursued by Dukhtar in 2014 and Moor in 2015.
