Modi’s controversial suit enters Guinness World Records812 views

The famous black suit that was worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi whenBarack Obama visited New Delhi and was later auctioned for Rs 43.131 crore, has made its way to the Guinness World Records for being the most expensive suit sold. The suit was bought by Surat diamond baron and private airline owner Laljibhai Patel.
The suit was originally worth Rs 11 lakh, gifted to PM Modi by Ramesh Virmani, a businessman who lives abroad. He claimed to have gifted the suit to the Prime Minister on the occasion his son’s wedding which coincided with Obama’s visit to India on January 26. The suit has ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ monogrammed as pinstripes.
The suit had sparked off quite a controversy when the Opposition questioned as to how could Prime Minister accept such an expensive gift from a person who is not related to him.
Patel, after buying the suit said, “I always wanted to do something in the interest of country. This event gave me a chance to do something in the interest of the nation. I never thought this incredible suit will come to me.”
Laljibhai Patel, who co-founded Diamond Aeronautics with three other businessmen, two diamantaires and a real estate developer, made three bids — of Rs 2.08 crore, Rs 2.51 crore and Rs 4.31 crore.
