More rain likely in Punjab, KPK



ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rainfall in upper Punjab, upper KPK, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during next 24 hours.

Synoptic situation:

Low pressure area lies over north Balochistan with its trough extending southeastward. A fresh westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and may persist next 24 hours.

Next 24 hrs:

Light rain-thunderstorm with strong gusty winds/duststorm is expected at scattered places of upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions), Islamabad, upper Punjab (Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad,  Lahore divisions), FATA, GB and Kashmir while at isolated places Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, D.I.Khan, Bannu divisions.

Dust raising winds is also expected at few places of D.G Khan, Quetta, Zhob, Sukkur and Larkana divisions.

Hot and dry weather is expected elsewhere.


Next 48 hrs:

Mainly hot and dry weather is expected during the day time in plain areas of the country. However light rain-thunderstorm with strong gusty winds/duststorm is expected at isolated places of upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions), Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions), upper FATA, GB and Kashmir.

Past weather:

Weather remained very hot and dry in most parts of the country. However rain-thunderstorm occurred at scattered places in upper Punjab, upper KP, and Kashmir while at isolated places in Sh. Benazirabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.


Astore valley road closed due to landsliding

In Gilgit-Baltistan, the Astore valley road has been closed due to landsliding after heavy rains. The rain is continuing since the last 24 hours in the area.
