ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Thursday announced to remove name of former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf from Exit Control List (ECL), allowing him to travel abroad for medical treatment .
“After receiving an application from Mushrraf’s counsel the ministry of interior has decided to strike Musharraf’s name off the ECL in the light of Supreme Court verdict,” Nisar said while addressing a press conference.
He said that the Musharraf’s lawyers have assured him that their client would return in four to six weeks and that the former president would face all the pending cases against him in courts.
The announcement came a day after the apex court directed the government to lift travel ban on Musharraf.
Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali had announced that the government’s appeal had been dismissed. But he said the government or a separate court could technically pass a fresh travel ban if they provided valid reasons.
Responding to criticism on the government over the issue, the interior minister said that all those people who had given guard of honor to Musharraf were criticizing the government.
