Pak to excercise First Election with Biometric System on 16th August


206405_98185589ISLAMABAD: For the first time in the country, an election is going to be conducted through bio metric system in By Polls of NA-19 Haripur, KPK.

According to details, NA-19 by poll is scheduled on 16th August and Election Commission of Pakistan with the cooperation of NADRA are set to install Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) for this election.

As per ECP, these EVMs will be placed on two dozen polling stations as a test case initially and in case of its success, other upcoming by polls will also be conducted through this advanced procedure.

Election Commission has taken this decision to assure the fairness and transparency of electoral system and to stop rigging possibilities because a lot of fingers raised on credibility General Elections 2013.

It this litmus test results positive, then the next general election can also be conducted via biometric system as demanded by major opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
