ISLAMABAD: With over 1.4 million Afghan refugees currently present in the country, Pakistan still hosts the Largest Refugee Population worldwide.
After 9/11 and when war struck Afghanistan, Pakistan hosted more than 4 million refugees at that time in 2001-2002. Around 3.8 million registered Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland since then.
According to the data of UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, there were 1,468,250 registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan by the start of 2015 while the country having the burden of around 0.6 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at that time due to the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb in north Waziristan.
Despite being a third world country facing economic dearth, security risk, instability, lack of resources and many other crises, Pakistani nation’s humanitarian compassion is commendable.
