LAHORE: Pakistan Kisan Ittehad is staging a sit-in protest in front of Punjab Assembly Mall Road Lahore against the anti-farmer agricultural policies of the PMLN led government.
The farmers demanded an increase in subsidy in the price of Cotton, Sugar Cane and Rice because increasing costs of production of corps is crushing their economy.
With having hundreds of farmers on Chairing Cross Chowk Lahore, this protest has entered into the second day and farmers set their crops of Rice and Potato on fire symbolically. All roads leading to Charing Cross have been blocked by these farmers protesting for their rights.
Khalid Khokhar said that farmers are facing unbearable losses in the production of all major crops and government is not paying attention to their issues rather they are creating more problems for them.
Defining his strategy of protest he told, that on Friday a symbolic funeral of agriculture (that is already dead) will be offered and farmers will symbolically suicide in protest. Then on Saturday they will move to capital city to stage a demonstration outside parliament but will not give up till their demands are met.
On July 12, Pakistan Kisan Ittehad also held protest demonstration in different cities for the same demands and had threatened government to stage a massive rally outside Punjab Assembly.
