The eminent Pakistani playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed was contacted by Indian lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar during the latest visit to Mumbai for turning his PTV drama Pyas into a movie.

After some months, Syed has accepted the idea and expansion of the script is by now under way. Syed was stating in an interview that “I think Pyas will make for a great film script. I have been contacted a number of times in the past for several dramas of mine but with Akhtar, things are different,” stating the Indian writer a good buddy, Syed added he has approved consent for the adaptation and feels there are not numerous who can do a good job than Akhtar.

The drama which was directed by Nusrat Thakur ran on PTV long ago and the plot was emphasizing on the culture of land ownership and feudalism. He continued by saying that “Though I wrote it a while ago, it is still pertinent for several areas. Pyas had done really well back then and I hope it will do the similar as a movie.”

The dramas by Syed depict the social injustices in the society. He has written plays depicting the feudal culture in rural Sindh, exploitation of women, the oligarchic structure in Pakistan comprising politicians, feudal, media moguls, and the bureaucracy.

The element of the original cast, actor Javed Kodu told that Pyas was a trendsetter and twisted a number of actors into stars of the industry. It was added “Even Sohail Ahmed and I got identified later than Pyas. I am happy to hear that they are making it into a movie.” The actor stated much about the drama’s success has to do with the capabilities of Thakur.

Actors for example Tahira Wasti, Nighat Butt, Abid Ali, Mahboob Alam, Masood Alam and Afzal Ahmad were also part of the super hit TV drama.
