Pakistani scientist included in jury of Iranian Mustafa Prize


KARACHI: Iranian government took in a scientist from  University of Karachi in the six-member jury for the “the Mustafa Prize”, science and technology award.

The Policy Making Council of the prize, which supervises the procedure of awarding the prize to the laureates, included Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, in the jury formed to nominate the Mustafa Prize laureates.

A senior official of the ICCBS on Friday said that the Mustafa (PBUH) Prize is granted to top researchers and scientists from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, biennially.

The upcoming Mustafa Prize ceremony is scheduled to be held on 25th December. The laureates in field will be awarded a total of $500,000. They will also be adorned with the Mustafa medial and diploma.

It is also worth mentioning here that Prof. Iqbal Choudhary has written and edited 27 books, most of which have been published in USA and Europe.

He is also the author of over 900 research papers and chapters in top international science journals of the West, as well as 32 US patents.

The cumulative impact factor of his publications is over 1,650. His scientific work has been cited more than 9150 times by other researchers with the h-index of 38.

This is by far the largest number of quality publications, citations and h-index from any scientist in Pakistan.

Prof. Choudhary has won several national and international awards such as Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan.

He received the prestigious title of “Distinguish National Professor” from the Higher Education Commission in 2004.

He is also the recipient of the 1st Khawarizmi International Award and Prize from the President of Islamic Republic of Iran and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Award in Education by the President of Azerbaijan.

Over 80 Ph.D. and 18 M.Phil. scholars have completed their studies under his supervision. He is the volume editor of many international book series and journals, the official of the ICCBS further stated.-APP
