PCB would select national team coach in May419 views
Shaharyar Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stated on Tuesday that the new coach of the national team will be chosen by the first week of May 2016.
The former career Pakistan diplomat, who is currently teaching Pakistan’s Foreign Relations at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) added that “The new coach will be appointed by the first week of May and Wasim Akram is also in India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) to discuss with possible candidates,”
Though, the chairman told that the board is yet not clear about that whether to select a foreign coach or local one.
Since Waqar Younis, the ex-coach of the Pakistani cricket team has been resigned later than Pakistan’s dismal performance in Asia Cup and World T20, the PCB is searching for a new coach.
The names of ex-cricketers like Aaqib Javed, Moin Khan, Mohsin Khan and Mudassar Nazar have been revolving in the media for the post of head coach, while it is reported that the board is thinking for Tom Moody and Dean Jones as likely foreign nominees for the job. Jones in recent times coached Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League as well.
PCB chairman affirmed also that Mohsin Khan was offered the post of chief selector; however he refused it in favor of a coaching post. He, who served as UN SRSG to Rwanda, told that “Mohsin is more inclined towards coaching the national team,”
The 82-year-old stated that the board would at present make meetings later than providing it appropriate consideration as the national team had sturdy tours forward in England and Australia.
