PDMA issues alert as Met forecast heavy rains

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has issued alert as Met Office has forecast heavy rains and thunderstorm in Punjab and parts of KP from Monday, Samaa reported.

PDMA says heavy rains can cause flash floods at different places of the KP province.

The authority has directed district administrations throughout the province to be vigilant and take precautionary measures to avert human and material losses.

Synoptic situation:

Yesterday’s well marked low pressure area (LPA) over Madhya Pradesh now lies  as an upper air circulation over west Madhya Pradesh (India). Under the influence of this (LPA), more monsoon currents are very likely to penetrate gradually upper and some southern parts of the country from Monday.

Seasonal low lies over North Balochistan. A shallow westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country.

Next 24 hrs:

Rain/dust-thunderstorm accompanied by windstorm is expected at scattered places in Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions) and Kashmir while at isolated places in KP (Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, D.I. Khan divisions), Bahawalpur, Sukkar , Mirpur Khas, Zhob divisions and FATA.

Hot and humid weather expected in other parts of the country.

Met Office says upto 50 mm rainfall is likely in Karachi and other cities of Sindh on Tuesday and Wednesday amid rainstorm.

Next 48 hrs:

Rain/dust-thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls accompanied by windstorm is expected at scattered places in Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions), lower Sindh (Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpur Khas divisions) and Kashmir while at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south Punjab (Multan, Bahawalpur, D. G. Khan, Sahiwal divisions) and northeast Balochistan (Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad divisions).

Hot and humid weather would continue in other parts of the country.
