ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday appreciated Pakistan Air Force’s role in safeguarding Pakistan’s air frontiers and clearing terrorists’ hideouts in particular.

He was talking to Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, who called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here at the PM House.

The prime minister lauded the contribution of Pakistan Air Force in destroying the hideouts and safe havens of terrorists in the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The Air Chief apprised the prime minister on the professional excellence and operational preparedness of Pakistan Air Force.

Sharif said historically, the PAF has invariably responded to threats to the national security. He said the competence of Pakistan Air Force was matchless.

“It is encouraging that Pakistan Air Force’s traditional role has assumed new dimensions according to the changing times and advancement in technology,” the prime minister remarked.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that the world knows that law and order situation in Pakistan has improved.

PM Sharif made the statement while chairing a meeting to review the country’s internal security and implementation of the National Action Plan.

He added that Pakistan, being on the front line, remained a target of terrorism compared to other countries. He added that the country has affected socially and economically due to the terrorism.

The prime minister went on to say that the terrorists have been defeated due to the strong spirit of the nation and the law enforcement agencies. He went on to say that the federal government will support all the provinces regarding intelligence sharing.

Sharif expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

In June 2014, the Pakistan Armed Forces launched a military offensive against terrorists and militants in the tribal region codenamed “Operation Zarb-e-Azb”. This was a renewed effort against militants in the wake of the attack on the Karachi airport on June 08.

Thousands of soldiers are part of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb to flush out local and foreign militants hiding in the North Waziristan tribal region. This has strongly improved security situation across the country and received widespread support from the people.

Several soldiers have been martyred in the fighting but their sacrifices helped bring peace to the area.
