PM Sharif holds consultation over opposition ToRs

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday held consultation with his aides over terms of reference (ToRs) agreed by opposition parties for investigation into Panama Papers leaks, Samaa reported.

According to our correspondent, the government has devised its strategy to counter the opposition parties.

The meeting, presided over by PM Nawaz Sharif, was attended by senior PML-N leaders, legal experts and federal cabinet members.

Yesterday, leaders from key opposition parties, including PTI, PPP and JI, formally withdrew their demand for the prime minister’s resignation and agreed on a draft of ToRs for the judicial commission to investigate the Panama allegations.

Opposition parties, after holding consultation, called for formation of a three-member judicial commission under chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) through legislation.

They said the commission should hold an inquiry against PM Nawaz Sharif and members of his family in three to four months.

Sources said that government is agreed on considering opposition ToRs following a discussion with legal experts.

Nawaz Sharif is under tremendous pressure from opposition since his family members were named in the mass leak of offshore account data from the Panama firm Mossack Fonseca.
