Polling kicks off for LG polls in Lahore


LAHORE: Polling for the phase-I of the Local Government (LG) polls started in the provincial capital at 7:30 am which will continue uninterrupted till 5:30 pm.

As many as 4,305,880 voters will cast their votes for 274 union council (UC) seats in Lahore for which as many as 3,269 polling stations have been set up.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, some 839 polling stations have been declared very sensitive in Lahore while 2,430 polling stations have been notified as sensitive.

Most of the polling staff reached the polling stations overnight to start the process on time while polling at few of the polling stations could not start due to the absence of polling agents of the candidates.

Presiding Officer at Punjab University Junior School Polling Station (Combined-1) of UC 216, Naeem ur Rehman told APP that the polling process has been smooth and some 25 voters have cast their votes till 8:15 am.

The voting trend is slow due to early morning and the presence of the voters has been thin.

Fareeha Sabeen at LDA community Center Muslim Town polling station told APP.

Lahore Police has set up 12 control rooms to monitor elections in the city while a large contingents of police have been deployed to deal with any situation. – APP
