Remembering Dara Singh, Bollywood’s famous wrestler-turned-actor, on his 4th death anniversary today.



Dara Singh was born on November 19, 1928 in Dharmchuk, Amritsar, Punjab, British India as Dara Singh Randhawa. He was an actor and director, known for Jab We Met(2007), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Mera Naam Joker (1970). He died on July 12, 2012 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Became wrestling champion of India before winning the world championship crown.
Is the brother of fellow actor Randhawa.
From his first marriage, he has a son – Parduman Singh Randhawa. From his second marriage, he has five children – two sons and three daughters, which includes TV and film actor Vindu Dara Singh.
Dara was paired opposite Mumtaz in 16 Hindi films and 10 were box office hits.
Did 122 Hindi films and 22 Punjabi films.
He became the Commonwealth Champion in 1959 and was 1968 World Champion in Wrestling defeating American Lou Thesz.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters.

Has an older son from his first marriage named Parduman Radhawa. Pardhuman acted in the 1968 classic Aankhen.
Has another son named Amrik Randhawa. Amrik produced 2 Punjabi movies. Rab Dian Rakha and Ankhila Soorma.
The names of his daughters are Kamal, Deepa and Loveleen.
He trained his younger brother Randhawa for professional wrestling.
Brother in law of Bollywood actress Malika ( Randhawa’s wife).
Son Parduman used the screen name Shailendra in his film Bandish.
Son Amrik Singh’s nickname is “Anu”.
Eldest son Parduman’s son’s name is Vijay Singh .
Dara Singh’s son in law Sunny Gill is married to daughter Loveleen. Sunny is a travel agent and Indian amateur wrestler. He resides in Canada. In 2000, Sunny attempted to make his Bollywood debut as a hero with the film Sar Zameen. The film was shelved due to financial reasons.
Dara Singh’s claim that all his professional wrestling matches in India and abroad being real fights or real sporting events are false. All the wrestling matches Dara Singh performed in as the say in professional wrestling was a ” Work”. The outcomes were all predetermined and the wrestlers wrestled choreographed wrestling moves without hurting each other. King Kong, a major enemy in the ring and co star in many Bollywood movies was actually the wrestling promoter for all the shows. Behind the scenes they shared a close friendship and helped each other in the ring.

Nephew name is Baljeet Singh Pehlawaan.
Son Amrik Randhawa is married to Amrita Randhawa.
Son Amrik acted in Sunny Deol’s Dillagi .
