Supreme Court allows Ayyan to fly for Dubai

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday finally issued its verdict allowing model Ayyan Ali to fly for abroad.

Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, who was heading a three-member bench of the apex court, issued a brief ruling that was reserved last week.

In its orders, the court rejected a petition by Federal Interior Ministry and Customs authorities challenging Sindh High Court’s judgment to expunge her from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The SC, while upholding SHC decision, said in the verdict that the model could be allowed to leave the country to meet her mother. Ayyan Ali had claimed that her mother is under treatment in Dubai.

The apex court, after hearing arguments of both sides, had reserved its verdict last week.

On March 7, the model Ayyan Ali, also known as dollar girl, was allowed by the Sindh High Court to fly for Dubai. The court asked the government to remove the model’s name from exit control list (ECL).

Her name was placed on ECL as part of investigations into recovery of $500,000 from her possession at Rawalpindi airport on March 14, 2015.

She spent three months in jail before being released on bail in July last year.
