The Revenant is set to hit in Pakistan

Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Revenant has got much praise and fame from all over and now it is set to hit the Pakistani cinemas. The film, which has braved many storms and Oscar nominations, is anticipated to perform well in Pakistan. It has historically seen that Oscar-nominated movies have seldom performed well in the country. Though, The Revenant has a box office tally of Rs 10 million, just over a week after its release.

Hammad Chaudhry, the Chairman of HKC Entertainment, the local distributors of the film, shared his views as, “I think one of the biggest factors that contributed to the film’s box office success is that it released only six days after the announcement of its Oscar nomination. It had the right amount of buzz heading into its release.”

Whereas all the distributors know that the film was heavily downloaded through torrents, Chaudhry told that “DiCaprio is one of the most renowned actors. He is like a brand in himself,” he further added that “So, we knew that people would most definitely come to watch his performance in The Revenant.”

2015, The Revenant, English language film has gone well specifically in Karachi and its numbers have been enhanced by a big turnout in Lahore as well, mainly at the IMAX.

Nadeem Mandviwalla, the managing director of Mandviwalla Entertainment, also considered in on the film’s grossing. He asserted that though earnings of $100,000 were not extraordinary for a Hollywood movie in Pakistan, it is yet gigantic for a movie akin to The Revenant.

He continued by saying that “A successful Hollywood film usually earns around $400,000 in Pakistan, but for a movie like The Revenant, which has no commercial element in it, these are outstanding numbers,”
