This island has been named as the best destination by travellers!

The joy of watching the waves, breathing in the slightly salty air, eating fresh seafood and lounging on the beach is unmatched. Which is why you’re probably already considering a getaway to an island for the summer.

Lending a helping hand in that decision is travel planning and booking portal TripAdvisor, which recently named Hawaii’s Maui as the best island in the world, as part of its Travellers’ Choice Awards announcement.

Other islands that have made it to the list include Santorini, Jamaica, and Bali; the latter has also topped the Asian list.

From India, Havelock Island in the Andamans has been placed 9th among the islands in Asia.

The winners of the awards were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions on islands worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period. The portal also took booking interest generated on its site into consideration.
