Two-Hour-Old Baby Found Near Mumbai Dustbin, Dogs Were Fighting Over His Half-Eaten Body

The upper body of a newborn baby, not more than two hours old, was found dumped near a dustbin in Nalasopara (east). Stray dogs are suspected to have eaten the lower body.

The sex of the baby has not been determined. The hands and head of the body have been send for autopsy.

The body was in a plastic bag near the dustbin in High Tension Road, Pragati Nagar, Nalasopara (east). Locals saw stray dogs fighting over the plastic bag. It turned out to be the body of a newborn. The Tuling police said that the body may have been dumped during the day when there was heavy rains. Dogs are suspected to have eaten the lower parts of the body.

The police said that only the two hands and head of the new born was left. It is not known if the baby was alive when dumped. A case under Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of the IPC has been registered against unknown persons. Maternity homes are being checked for deliveries.
