Vandersay replaces Malinga in Sri Lanka’s WT20 squad139 views
Jeffrey Vandersay, the 26-year-old Sri Lankan spinner, was, on Saturday ( March 19) called up to replace Lasith Malinga in the Sri Lanka squad for the ongoing ICC World T20, 2016. Malinga was ruled out of the tournament having failed to recover from a knee injury.
Vandersay, a leg-spinner who has played four T20Is and three ODIs for the national side thus far, will join fellow spinners Rangana Herath and Sachitra Senenayake in the line-up.
Malinga, 32, has been under an injury cloud since December last year and picked up a bone bruise – an impact-induced sports injury – during his man of the match winning 4 for 26 against the United Arab Emitates on return last month in the Asia Cup. He delayed his arrival in India for the multi-team event but after failing to achieve significant improvement to guarantee match participation, was left out of the tournament opener against Afghanistan in Kolkata on Thursday despite bowling with a near-full run up in the build up to the game, albeit with a knee cap.
