Veteran Indian actor Om Puri in Pakistan



Experienced Indian artist Om Puri, pointing to a killing event in Dadri, India, in which a mass assaulted a Muslim family, phrased the occurrence disgraceful for his country.

Mr Puri is at present in Pakistan for a three-day trip to attend International Film Festival prepared by Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW), was giving the interview to the media at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Thursday.

He stated about the cow slaughter subject in India that the people who desired to put a ban on cow slaughtering cows are hypocrites.

He stated it as “We export beef and earn dollars from it,”

It was inquired about the visit of singer Ghulam Ali who had called off his show in India because of a fanatic wave there; Mr Puri replied with a lament that the occurrence should not have occurred.

He further stated that the both country’s governments should not be frightened of these stances, continuing that almost 80 to 90 percent people in India were secular and they have no feelings of resentment against Pakistanis.

He said that “I appeal all those misled people to quit the ways which lead to hatred,”

Continued that “Allah has warned against taking lives of innocent people, why being humans such elements were behaving like animals,”

A query asked regarding Lahore, he replied if India and Pakistan would have been one country then Lahore was the centre of the film industry instead of Mumbai because “Lahore is a great historical city,”

On the reply regarding cricket, the actor stated that both countries should not stop playing cricket.

He valued RPTW for their endeavors in endorsing art and culture and organizing festivals.

Madhur Bhandarkar who is an Indian movie director, producer and scriptwriter and had made movies, for example, Fashion, Traffic Signal and Chandani Bar, stated that he was eager regarding his trip to Pakistan.

He told that movies always allied the citizens. He further told that both countries had a wonderful talent in singing, acting, direction and other fields. Then he was given award by Pakistani well-known movie actress Zeba on behalf of RPTW.
