Samples collected by the Dept of Agriculture show unhealthy levels of pesticide residues

20,618 samples analysed 3,857 (18.7%) samples contained pesticide residues 543 (2.6%) samples contained residues above maximum residue limit (MRL) as prescribed by FSSAI 1,180 (12.5%) samples contained residues of non-approved pesticides

Chlorpyrifos Exposure during pregnancy retards the mental development of child; Causes persistent headaches, blurred vision, fatigue and problems with mental function in adults   Ethion Impaired memory and concentration, disorientation, severe depression, headache, speech difficulties, nightmares, sleepwalking, insomnia   Malathion Carcinogenic and linked with increased incidence of leukemia in mammals   Acephate Possible human carcinogen and evidence of mutagenic effects and reproductive toxicity   DDT Chronic liver damage cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis, endocrine and reproductive disorders
