Yoga can help in abnormal heart rhythm

Yoga is the best way to health it can improve the value of life in patients who are suffering from unusual heart rhythm because it provides them with a method to get a few self-control above their signs rather than feeling helpless, states a new research study.

The researchers of the study inspected the effects of yoga on patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in which defective electrical signals and quick heart rate start abruptly and then end on their own. Maria Wahlstrom, who is a researcher of the study from Sophiahemmet University in Sweden, stated that “Many patients with paroxysmal AF can’t live their lives as they want to — they refuse dinners with friends, concerts and travelling – because they are afraid of an AF episode occurring,”

“AF episodes are accompanied by chest pain, dyspnoea and dizziness,” further stated Wahlstrom in the research study cited in the European journal of cardiovascular nursing. These signs are distasteful and patients feel apprehensive, concerned and worried that an AF episode would happen. AF is the much regular cardiac rhythm disorder and has no treatment, the researchers indicated. Patients with paroxysmal AF experience episodes of AF generally lasting below 48 hours and end by themselves, though in a few patients they can last up to seven days.

The research team involved 80 patients with paroxysmal AF who were randomized to yoga or a control group that did not perform yoga. Yoga was done for an hour, once a week, for 12 weeks in the hospital with a skilled trainer, which involved light movements, deep breathing and meditation. Later than 12 weeks, the yoga team had elevated “SF-36” mental health scores, lesser heart rate and lesser systolic and diastolic blood pressure than the control group. Wahlstrom further told that “We found that patients who did yoga had a better quality of life, lower heart rate and lower blood pressure than patients who did not do yoga. The breathing and movement may have beneficial effects on blood pressure,” 

Wahlstrom continued that, “Patients in the yoga group said it felt good to let go of their thoughts and just be inside themselves for awhile,”
