Zimbabwe to decide fate of Pakistan, West Indies for Champions Trophy 201768 views
Zimbabwe is likely to become the battleground for the 2017 Champions Trophy qualification, as a return tour from Pakistan and the hosts have also invited West Indies for a Tri-Nation series.
The Champions Trophy will be hosted by England and Wales, the host team is currently ranked sixth in the ICC ODI Rankings. Top eight teams in the ICC ODI Rankings will participate for the mega event, while Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Indies were heavily tied up for the remaining two slots.
But Bangladesh are now five points ahead eighth placed West Indies, after defeating India 2-1 in an ODI series at home. Now the interesting thing is that Zimbabwe Cricket has invited West Indies to play a Tri-Nation series and fight for a Champions Trophy spot, as they have no series scheduled before the cut-off date 30th September 2015.
West Indies are currently on the eighth spot in the ICC ODI Rankings with 88 points and Pakistan are on the ninth spot with 87 points. Greenshirts have a chance of surpassing the W indies, if they defeat Sri-Lanka in the upcoming five match ODI series in July and against Zimbabwe in August.
On the other hand, West Indies who needs matches to maintain the lead for Pakistan have yet not confirmed Zimbabwe’s invitation for Tri-Nation series. But according to the sources West Indies are likely to agree for the tri-series.
